I.               About BIT

Founded in 1940, Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) is a top national university in China, recognized under the prestigious “211 Project,” “985 Project,” and “Double First-Class” initiatives. BIT enjoys a strong reputation both domestically and internationally, as reflected in a series of notable rankings: 259th in the 2026 QS World University Rankings, within the top 102 in the 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), 156th in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities Rankings, and 236th in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. In addition, BIT ranked 9th among universities in the Chinese Mainland in the QS Global Graduate Employability Rankings 2022. BIT also holds the top spot for Higher General Education Accreditation for International Students in China.


Although science and engineering remain its core focus, BIT fosters balanced growth across other disciplines, including management and the humanities, with many of its programs consistently ranking in China’s top 10. In recent years, BIT has bolstered its international reputation through a robust internationalization strategy, cultivating a global talent community while continuously improving the quality of its educational offerings. This forward-thinking approach is reflected in the creation of a diverse, cosmopolitan learning and living environment on campus, underscoring BIT’s growing international presence and influence. Today, BIT is proud to host a vibrant student body that includes more than 4000 international students from 152 countries.

 

II.               Overview

Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) has established partnerships more than 400 universities worldwide and warmly welcomes students from partner institutions to study and exchange at BIT.

 

Exchange students may choose to take major (academic) courses taught in either Chinese or English, or to study the Chinese language. The duration of study ranges from one to two semesters.

* For programs taught in Chinese, please refer to the undergraduate and graduate admission brochures. All programs are open to exchange students.

 

B.       Intensive Chinese Language Program

Courses are arranged for one semester or one academic year. If this course is selected, applicants cannot take the major courses listed above at the same time.

 

* Transcripts will be issued 3 months after the end of the semester (applies to all majors/courses).

 

III.               Application Information

A.       Eligibility

1. Must be enrolled students from partner institutions;

2. Undergraduate students must complete at least two semesters at their home institution, while graduate students are not subject to this requirement;

3. Must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport;

4. Must be in good physical and mental health;

5. For programs taught in Chinese, applicants are required to provide an HSK Level 5 certificate with a score of 180 or above. For programs taught in English, applicants must submit one of the following: TOEFL≥85, IELTS overall score≥6.0, Duolingo English Test≥110, or other equivalent proof of English proficiency recognized by BIT (native English speakers are exempt);

6. Applicants to Chinese Language programs must submit either a valid Chinese proficiency certificate or an English proficiency certificate as stated above.

 

B.       Application Documents (* is required):

*1. The Photocopy of the Passport (photo page, Chinese visa page if you have);

*2. ID Photo with A White Background;

*3. Transcripts From Your Home University;

*4. Proof of Language Proficiency;

*5. One Letter of Recommendation;

*6. Personal Statement (download BIT International Student Personal Statement template from http://isc.cuanfei.com/→Resources→Download, complete it, and upload it in the application system);

*7. Physical Examination Record for Foreigner (please undergo a physical examination at a hospital following the requirements in the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners, available in the "Download" section, and upload it in the application system);

*8. Self-Introduction Video File (Format requirements: MP4, size must not exceed 50MB; the video content should include name, nationality, current institution and grade, name of the major you are applying for, language of instruction, and duration of study, etc.).

 

C.       How to apply

1.      Fill in personal information and upload application materials on the application website (apply.isc.cuanfei.com);

2.      Submit the application;

3.      Pay the application fee after passing the initial review;

4.      Interview/Video Statement review;

5.      Admission

 

D.       Nomination Time

Spring semester: October 15th - November 15th

Fall semester: March 1st - May 15th 

 

E.       Application Time

Spring semester: October 15th - December 1st 

Fall semester: March 1st - June 1st

 

F.        Fees

Health Insurance

CNY 400-900/half year, CNY 800-1800/year

Accommodation Fee

Zhongguancun campus

2 people shared room: CNY1,350/month

3 people shared room: CNY1,200/month  

4 people shared room: CNY900/month

 

Liangxiang campus

2 people shared room: CNY900/month   

3 people shared room: CNY700/month  

4 people shared room: CNY500/month
